Foreboding Project
Description

"On n'a pas besoin de connaître le danger pour craindre; il y a même une chose à remarquer, c'est que ce sont justement les dangers inconnus qui inspirent les plus grandes terreurs."
-Alexandre Dumas, Le comte de Monte-Cristo

You will not find comfort in what you know.
This is not a horror addon in the usual sense. You won’t find any monsters waiting in the dark. But you’ll wish you had. You’ll hope for something to fight as the familiar world you once roamed will slowly, but certainly, turn against you. Quietly.
It begins with normalcy. It always does. You build. You explore. The world feels stable. You might even defeat the Ender Dragon without resistance. But something will feel off. Not broken. Not wrong. Just... different.
Your surroundings start to shift. The details blur. What once was familiar echoes with something unfamiliar beneath it. A door opens when you’re not looking. Footsteps mirror yours but keep going after you’ve stopped. You’ll begin to wonder what’s real and what isn’t.
Take this as a warning: I’ve fallen prey to it. Knowledge is your weakness. Trust only your doom. Calm is just the disguise of what’s coming. Learn to fear the silence as it hides what hasn't struck yet.
The worst is yet to come...

What to expect
A faithful vanilla atmosphere
Slow, psychological horror progression
Subtle environmental changes
Subtle growing threats
No unfair deaths
No (intentional) jumpscares
Vanilla achievements remain earnable
More than 100 events.
You will not be attacked.
You will not be hunted.
But you will not feel alone.
The price of terror
The Foreboding Project is a slow burn meant to start hidden in your world. Upon installation you may log into your already running world, or new world and see nothing has changed. Play as you normally would, wondering at every turn what is normal, and what is not. Let the fearful apprehension fill you, for then you have fallen prey to the foreboding.
If you want instant action I fear you will not find it here; you seek horror, but terror needs time to build.
Events Overview
Warning
The best experience lies in going in blind. However, for those who crave knowledge, read on at the bane of your own future enjoyment.

The events will not start from the get go as there are conditions for the Foreboding to start, at first, the world seems ordinary. But there will be minor subtle hints that all is not as it appears.
Sample events:
First Spawn: Your arrival in this world might not have gone unnoticed.
Seen: You can feel it
Starting Conditions:
Triggering any of the following will begin the Foreboding. These were chosen to allow a normal Minecraft experience, providing an off guard experience as much as possible (stop reading this now if you still want that experience for you)
Reaching y -55
Traveling 8,000 blocks from (0, 0)
Reaching level 31
If the world is 15 minecraft days old, each day has a 1% chance of starting the foreboding
Wearing enough diamond armor or tools.
(Triggering all of them won't accelerate the Foreboding)

In this stage if you are paying attention, you may note, a thicker fog in the horizon. The world will remain the same, but bear in mind, that something is coming.

The horizon blurs. The mist is not just closer, it feels heavier, whatever it entails will start manifesting in your world.
Sample events:
Still Life: The world feels frozen, crops refuse to grow, fire won’t spread, and grass remains unchanged, as if time itself has stalled.
Silence: All music suddenly stops, leaving an eerie, unnatural silence.
Cave Noise: Deep underground, unsettling noises remind you that you're not alone.
Creeper Explosion: Some explosions leave behind more than just destruction.
Horn Back at You Event: An eerie response to familiar sounds.

At this point the fog is a given, a reality impossible to miss or deny as the thickness is too dense to miss even for the most oblivious person, and thus you realize that whatever is coming with it, is almost here.
Sample events:
The Vanishing: The world grows unnervingly quiet, no zombies groan, no skeletons rattle. It’s as if something has scared them away…
Blink: Your screen blacks out for a fraction of a second, was it just your imagination?
Vanished Vessel: A boat left unattended might not be there when you return.
Caves Jukebox: Caves shouldn't be this eerie, why is this here.
Night Scream: The night holds many sounds, but some shouldn’t be there.

Hours ago the fog loomed close, but now it surrounds you, and whatever came with it, is now with you.
Sample events:
The Return: Whatever kept them at bay is gone. The creatures are back, stronger, relentless, and with no way to hold them back.
Endless Night: No matter how long you rest, the night never fades. Dawn feels like a distant memory.
Fading Vitality: Wounds no longer heal on their own. Whatever is watching… wants you vulnerable.
Blackout: All torches extinguish at once, leaving you in total darkness.
Sunset: The sky suddenly darkens as if night is falling.

After the madness, dawn returns. The fog recedes. The world begins to remember what it once was.
Peace is a fragile thing. One day, the fog may return.

Custom settings and The Menu
The Foreboding Project features an inner menu that allows for custom settings, accessible to any player with operator status or higher.
However, the menu itself must be summoned. The details of its altar are hidden somewhere within this page. You may choose to take part in this little game of mine or simply keep reading below for the direct instructions.
To call forth the menu, you will need:
8 gold blocks
4 redstone torches
1 mossy cobblestone
1 mycelium block
1 flint and steel
Arrange them in the shape of an old Herobrine altar, with the mossy cobblestone at the center and the mycelium placed above it.
When all is set, ignite the top of the mycelium with the flint and steel.

There is always more hidden in plain sight than we are willing to see.
Installation Considerations:
While applying the addon to a world ensure that both the behavior pack and the resource pack are applied.
If updating from a previous version, ensure that you replace both behavior and resource pack from your world.
FAQ??

Is the mod compatible with existing worlds?
Yes, it is compatible. All addon features integrate seamingly with existing worlds.
Can it be played in multiplayer?
Yes, it also features exclusive events for multiplayer.
I have been playing for a while and nothing happens.
The addon events begin after specific ingame conditions are met. And even after the addon starts, it takes some time (hours) for events to start happening. And even then, you need to pay attention to note some of then, eventually events will be too obvious to miss, but they start slow and with no haste.
Why does my tick speed seem to be set to 0?
This is an intentional part of the mod designed to create a feeling of unease.
How to uninstall?
You should wait for the foreboding to complete or change the chapter to chapter 0 using the built in configuration menu, this will restore ingame rules before removing the addon. If not done this way please manually check and adjust the following gamerules: randomtickspeed, naturalregeneration, dodaylightcycle, domobspawning.

Alternatively if you want to support this project in another way. Try writing about your experience in the comments: what you liked, what surprised you, what got on your nerves, and even what you did not like so I can improve on it. I would really like to read what you have to say, and others deciding whether to give the Foreboding Project a shot would certainly appreciate it too.

Some things are better left unseen,
But you have already come this far,
Haven't you?
